Mike Parker - Atomized Nine / Dragonesque EP

Mike Park­er returns to his Geo­phone imprint with two fresh cuts. This year Geophop­ne cel­e­brat­ed its 20^th anniver­sary and in doing so reflect­ed on sev­er­al pre­vi­ous works which were re-mas­tered and re-cut for max­i­mum impact. Now, as 2019 draws to a close, Park­er sees out the year with some unre­leased cuts that rein­force the labels ethos and val­ues that are as strong today as they were 20 years ago.

The open­ing cut Atom­ized Nine is a straight-up no-non­sense tech­no affair. Grad­u­al­ly evolv­ing sequences orbit hard-hit­ting four to the floor rhythms with all the artis­tic genius com­ing from the sub­tle changes in ener­gy. Drag­onesque is less melod­ic than its coun­ter­part, direct­ing focus on its low end with slow­ly pul­sat­ing basslines that even­tu­al­ly bub­ble out of con­trol around bold kicks and big gat­ed snares.
