RA Review: Sassy J - Patchwork

"Sassy J draws attention to dance music inspired by soul, jazz and funk on this exceptional compilation."

As 2019 drew to a close Sassy J’s highly anticipated Patchwork compilation landed on Rush Hour Records, to much acclaim. Following its release, Resident Advisor has taken to its platform to unravel the project in a lengthy and detailed review.

It reflects on and ties correlation to its chosen name Patchwork acknowledging its significance as Sassy J’s long-running club night in her hometown of Bern, Switzerland. Here she invited many of the artists to be found on the compilation and notes how she has been talking/hailing about them at any given moment since.

In gathering new music from her musical heroes-turned-friends, Sassy J’s debut compilation feels like the musical equivalent. It’s a life-affirming tribute that gives equal footing to her own vision and the artists who continue to shape it”
