Steve Bicknell on KR3 compilation

Steve Bick­nell has been shap­ing the sound of tech­no for close to three decades.… And here, in his first release of the new year/​decade, he con­tin­ues to do so with no compromise.

Bick­nell sets the tone with the open­ing cut on this mini-com­pi­la­tion from the new­ly formed KR3 Records. His track ​‘Defence Mech­a­nism’ leads the way with works from Zadig, GG & l and Iori to follow.

‘Defence Mech­a­nism’ finds Bick­nell chan­nelling 90s ware­house sounds with a fresh con­tem­po­rary twist. Ooz­ing in cre­ative, grit­ty dis­tor­tion he deploys pul­sat­ing synth lines that to and fro with hyp­not­ic effect while keep­ing things direct with four to the floor drum work. The mag­ic in this one comes from the sub­tle manip­u­la­tions of the para­me­ters, lis­ten in full below.
